This tomatillo is early maturing. The plants grow to 3-6' tall, and are very prolific. Easy to grow. The fruits are large, flat-round green 2-4 oz fruits that are sweet yet tart at the same time. They are wonderful when used in a green salsa or Mexican cooking.
The plants are very tolerant to extreme conditions from drought to even cool weather and cool nights.
They are adapted to grow in both southern and northern climates. They are encased in a papery shell with green fruit. When the fruit is ripe, it turns from green to brown and will split.
The "Rio Grande Verde" variety is larger than the "Toma Verde". However the Toma Verde variety generally matures earlier than the Rio Grande.

OPEN POLLINATED
Pollination occurs by insect, bird, wind, humans, or other natural mechanisms. Because there are no restrictions on the flow of pollen between individuals, open-pollinated plants are more genetically diverse. However, as long as pollen is not shared between different varieties within the same species, then the seed produced will remain true-to-type year after year.
