Melon - Tuscany Melon Cantaloupe

The Tuscany melons hail from Italy, and is commonly known as a cantaloupe. However it has origins in ancient Persia and also dates back to Egyptian times in 2400 BC. In a much later legend, it has been said that Columbus brought melon seed with him to the New World, which began the spread of melons in North America.

This melon is one of the sweetest and juiciest of its kind. This one of our favorites!

Seed Count: 30

Germination: 4-10 days

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/2" deep

Sowing Indoors: 3-4 weeks before last frost. Take careful measures when transplanting as to not damage the roots. Sowing in individual pots or biodegradable pots is best.

Sowing Outdoors: Sow after last frost, do not plant until soil temperatures reach between 70º-80ºF. Plant 2-3 seeds every 36", thin to the strongest seedling.

Harvest Time: Look for these signs. The skin tone changes and netting becomes heavy, the ends soften, they will slip from the vines or a gentle tug will pull it away from the vine, a crack develops around the stem, the closet tendril to the stem dries, and the aroma increases when ripe.

Tips: Plant Tuscany Melon in fertile soil, amended with compost or well rotted manure and keep well watered. They benefit from growing on black plastic, hay and other barriers. Also does well by using row covers for weed, insect control, and more rapid growth.
