Start the luffa seeds indoors. They need a good amount of time to mature. They will need the summer heat and plenty of water during the summer. The vines can grow very long and do very well with fertilizer. Rabbit fertilizer does wonders with the luffa.

These vines need something to climb on, such as a trellis, fence, or arbor, to prevent them from sprawling on the ground and to encourage straight, healthy fruit growth.

The trellis: needs to be strong enough to support the weight of the mature luffa gourds, which can become quite heavy.

Alternatives to Trellises:

Fences: Luffa vines can be trained to grow up a fence, which can be a good option if you have a sturdy fence available.

Arbors: Arbors or garden arches can also provide a suitable structure for luffa vines to climb.
