Anise

Anise is a plant with a sweet, licorice-like flavor, commonly used as a spice in cooking, flavoring liquors like ouzo and sambuca, and for its traditional medicinal uses. Its seeds and oil have been used for many things.

The essential oil should not to be confused with Chinese star anise, which has a similar flavor profile.

This is a popular spice in various cuisines.
