Cabbage - Golden Kogane Chinese Cabbage, also known as Napa

Kogane Chinese cabbage is a Japanese heirloom variety of cabbage with a loose head and yellow core. It's also known as napa cabbage, Chinese white cabbage, or celery cabbage. 


Seed Count: 1.715mg approx. 400 seeds

Climate: Prefers mild climates and cool temperatures; avoid planting in extreme heat or frost. 

Soil: Use well-drained, fertile soil. 

Sunlight: Plant in full sun. 

Seed sowing: Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost in spring, or

Sow seeds directly in the ground, 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, and space plants 12 inches apart. 

Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during seedling establishment. 

Thinning: Thin seedlings to the desired spacing once they have a few true leaves. 

Harvesting: Harvest when the heads are firm and mature, typically within 60 days. 


Characteristics 

Flavor: Mild, succulent, and good for pickling and cooking

Appearance: Loose head with crumpled green outer leaves and a yellow core

Uses: Stir-fries, soups, kimchi, and microgreens

Sow seeds in spring or summer after the last frost

Harvest at any stage

Tips

In environments with insufficient natural light, consider supplemental lighting 

For media that hold some fertility, such as potting mix, plain water is usually best 

Provide plants with adequate water and fertilizer after transplanting to promote faster growth 

Some shade in summer helps to deter bolting
